Sadhana Sargam

Sadhana Sargam is another lovely voice that I love to listen to over and over again after S.Janaki & K.S.Chitra. The other thing I love is her clarity when singing in tamil, a south indian language, even though she is of North Indian origin.

She has won several awards throughout her career including the Indian national award as the best female playback singer in 2002 for the Tamil song "Pattu Solli" from the movie Azhagi, composed by Isaignani Ilaiyaraja.

Perhaps some credits may go to the Maestro himself who, as known to many of us, is a perfectionist when it comes to singers' pronunciation & rendition. Of course it would not be possible without Sargam's conscious effort to pronounce the lyrics correctly that is admirable & appreciable.

Apart from the many regional songs she has sung, she also sung for the Chinese flick "Warriors of Heaven & Earth". Music for the movie was composed by none other than our very own Isai Puyal AR Rahman. She has sung the Hindi version of the movie's theme song, Mirage (Warriors in Peace) which is sung by Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai in chinese. The english version of the song is sung by Sunitha Sarathy.

Sargam has sung many songs under the composition of various music directors, and mostly for Ilaiyaraja & AR Rahman, if I'm not wrong.

Here are some of my fav songs sung by her:
Nilavinile - Manasellam composed by Ilaiyaraja
Azhagae Sugama - Paarthale Paravasam composed by AR Rahman
Merke Merke - Kanda Naal Mudhal composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja
Hello Hello -Villain composed by Vidhyasakar
Naanthaana - Ninaithaley composed by Vijay Antony
Ragasiyamai - Dumm Dumm Dumm composed by Karthik Raja
Vena Vena - Vaseegara composed by S.A Rajkumar
Kaadu Thiranthe - Vasool Raja MBBS composed by Bharathwaj

Bharathiyar Paadalgal in Tamil Films

I have gathered some of my favourite Bharathiyar songs that have been composed beautifully in Tamil Films by various music directors.

BHARATHIYIN KANNAMMA PAADALGAL

1. Ninnai Charanadainthen Kannamma - Bharathi

The movie is based on Mahakavi Bharathiyar's life. Music for the movie is composed by Isaignani Ilaiyaraja. There are two versions of this song one sung by Ilaiyaraja (IR) himself and the other by Bombay Jeyashree. However, my fav is the version sung by Ilaiyaraja as it is very soulful compared to the female version. The feels and expressions in Isaignani's voice is simply great it touches the listeners' heart instantly. His voice is so soothing that whenever I listen to the song I am tempted to listen to it over and over again. Click on the link to listen to the song at Oosai.Com.

2. Ninnaiye Rathiyendru Ninaikirenadi Kannamma - Kannae Kaniyamuthe

Very nice composition by Mellisai Mannar M.S.Viswanathan soulfully rendered by Dr. K.J.Yesudas combined with B.S.Sasirekha's unique voice, this song stays in the listeners' mind as a haunting melody. The movie stars Amala & Rahman in the lead cast. The song have been picturised quite well. Amala's graceful dance movements & Rahman's calm expressions makes it visually appealing for repeated viewing. Click on the link above to view it on youtube.com.

3. Kaatru VeLiyidai Kannamma - Kapalotiya Thamizhan

Another lovely Bharathiyar Paadal which is composed beautifully for Kapalotiya Thamizhan by Music Director G.Ramanathan. The song comes to live with the melodious voices of P.B.Sreenivasan & P.Susheela. Starring the popular 60s Star Couple Gemini Ganesan & Saavithri. Need I say more? 4. Suttum Vizhi Sudarthan Kannama

Probably the one Bharathiyar song which have been used in various films under different music director's compositions. My fav is one from the movie Kandukondein Kandukondein. Hariharan rendered the poetic verses of Bharathi accompanied by the subtle background music scored by Isaipuyal AR Rehman. In my opinion this is one of ARR's excellent job, carefully arranging the music with minimum instruments so as not to override the beautiful verses with loud music.
